Panchang Power: How Tithi Can Make or Break Your Relationships
'Tithi' literally refers to a lunar day. Throughout the entire month, there are 30 tithis or 30 lunar days. Based on these tithis, the entire month is divided into two pakshas, Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha.
Shukla Paksha is the brighter half leading us towards Purnima, or the full Moon, while Krishna Paksha is the darker half and culminates into Amavasya or no moon day. Each of the Pakshas is sectioned into 15 days and, thus, consists of 15 tithis each.
On each lunar day, the Moon moves away from the Sun by 12 degrees. For the fifteen days of the Shukla paksha, the Moon moves away from the Sun, and during the Krishna paksha, the Moon moves towards the Sun. Each day, whether moving towards or away from the Sun, the Moon covers up a distance of 12 degrees – thus, completing a total of 360 degrees in the month.
In mathematical terms, tithi can be calculated as
Tithi = Longitude of Moon – longitude of the Sun (of the orbit of 360 degrees).
But why so much dry math about the tithis? Why so much underlying importance to this relative motion of the Moon w.r.t Sun?
Yes, we agree the above particulars about the tithis are drearily dull, but we did save on some fun of how tithis can actually draw a huge impact on your lives.
Let’s ask you a question, this time a relevant one!
Besides money, what really consumes a huge chunk of your life?
We believe it's relationships!
Now here, by relationships, we not only mean your relationship with your sweetheart or spouse. We mean all types of relationships.
The tithi that you’re born on has a deep impact on your relationships. Tithi, in fact, alters the way you think and behave; you would have done it otherwise.
In Vedic astrology, Sun denotes your ‘Soul’ and speaks of your personal growth, while Moon is the karaka of your mind and indicates your mental health.
A tithi, whether that of Shukla or Krishna Paksha, is a combination of both the Sun and Moon. Sun also indicates masculine power, and Moon is the symbol of feminine energy.
Each one of us is a fusion of sperm and ovum and are born on either of the 30 tithis. Thus, we, too, are born out of the union of solar and lunar energies.
It’s no doubt that tithis have a profound influence on your personality, mental health and outlook on life here, in specific our relationships.
The tithi you are born on extensively influences your relationships, interpersonal skills and inclination to develop lifelong alliances.
To figure out how you will fare in relationships for the rest of your life and the reasons why you have been (the way you have been) in your personal connections, you need to check the following,
1. Your birth tithi
2. Your tithi lord
3. Position of your tithi lord and the planets (or combination) of planets that aspect your tithi lord
Your tithi can give a gaping insight to what kind of a person you could be. Check your tithi here and read on to see what traits you have and how you conduct yourself, especially in forging relationships.

Of all the above tithis, Amavasya and Krishna Chaturdashi are believed to be the most inauspicious. So, does this mean that people born on these tithis perpetually lead their lives in poverty? Of course NOT.
Though these two tithis are widely considered inauspicious, people born on these tithis are highly intuitive and profoundly receptive. Yes, they could have some major relationship issues, but they posses the strongest minds and a spirit of a go-getter that can often be lethal.
There’s no relationship issue that people born on these tithis cannot resolve. All they need to do is train themselves for healthy interactions with people.
Being born on any tithi carries both positive and negative aspects. The negative ones are the flaw or the doshas in your horoscope and can be corrected or alleviated by suitable remedies. For instance, if you’re born on the Chaturdashi tithi, then regularly meditate on the mantra, ‘Om Namah Shivay,’ to lessen the negative effects of this tithi on your relationships.
The tithi you are born provides a blueprint on your personality and relationships. It tells you everything about your mind and the kind of soul you are. Handling the relationship part of our lives is often confusing and the most complex one. But reading the positive and negative aspects of the tithi can help us deal with our relationships in a better way.
Deciphering the tithis not only gives us astrological remedies but also give a chance to bring behavioral changes without putting us into the glare of people’s attention. It can help you work secretly on yourself.
Since personality and relationships are closely connected with each other, in the end, what’s important is enhancing the positive aspects and weeding out the negative ones in our personality. It’s no doubt that understanding your tithi can help foster better and healthier relationships throughout your life.
