Know the Turmeric Remedies and Benefits in Vedic Astrology
Turmeric comes from the ginger family. With her multiple uses, she is referred to as the ‘Golden Goddess’ and the Golden Spice. Be it as a cooking ingredient or otherwise, no one can miss her healing properties.
The Latin term "terra merita" is where the name "turmeric" originates. Terra Merita literally means a meritorious earth. The Vedic culture in India has celebrated her for nearly 4,000 years.
In Sanskrit, she’s known by 53 different names, including Bhadra, meaning auspicious one; Lakshmi, meaning prosperity; Pinga, meaning reddish-brown; Yamini, meaning night; and Yuvati, meaning young girl.
India produces almost all of the turmeric in the world and consumes almost 80 per cent of the crop. It's no surprise that the Vedic culture holds this crop in high esteem.
How is Shri Ganesha connected to turmeric?
Turmeric is called Gauri. Shri Ganesha was born to Gauri, his mother.
Rati, Kama’s wife, once cursed Goddess Parvati, saying that she would not be able to bear a child in her womb. While she was enjoying a happy married life with her consort, Bhagwan Shiva, Devi Parvati was distraught at the curse. She knew she’d never be able to get pregnant, but she desperately wanted to become a mother.
Once, while taking a bath, Devi Parvati applied ubtan, or turmeric paste, to her entire body. She then scrubbed off the turmeric paste that she had used to cleanse her body. She gathered those shreds and breathed life into them. A boy was born of it, who was later famously called Shri Ganesha.
Shri Ganesha thus has a deep connection with turmeric as his source of birth. Along with the vermillion, turmeric is an integral part of the worship of Bhagwan Ganesha and His mother Gauri.
Bhagwan Ganesha has numerous manifestations. These manifestations vary according to the ‘bhav’ of His devotees. Of these manifestations one such manifestation is Hardira Ganpati. Haridra Ganpati is unique in appearance, for it is made of the Haldi root and adorns yellow clothes.
The benefits of worshipping Haridra Ganpati are numerous, as follows -
- Haridra Ganpati bestows his devotees with prosperity and good luck.
- The worship of this Ganpati is believed to bestow Riddhi (wealth) and Siddhi (knowledge) on his devotees.
- The worship of Haridra Ganpati boosts the effects of Mercury, Jupiter, and Budha Aditya yoga, forming in your natal chart.
- Haridra Ganpati mellows down the negative effects of Neech Bhang Yoga in your natal chart.
- Haridra Ganpati protects his devotees from competitors, enemies, bad spiritual energies, and evil eyes.
- Promotes peace and happiness in your relationships, especially your married life.
How do you harness the power of turmeric through simple and effective tips?
Turmeric has hordes of power and goodness. To unlock its powers and use them for our complete benefit, all we need to do is follow these simple tips.
These tips, though astrological in nature, when followed with complete faith, promote overall well-being. These tips are also remedial in nature and imbibe the importance of holistic living.
1) Balance a Malefic Jupiter in Your Natal Chart
If you're uncertain about your Jupiter placement in your birth chart, use our free Kundli Calculator to find it.
Turmeric finds a deep connection with Jupiter. In a hidden way, the power of Jupiter functions through the magical properties of turmeric.
Jupiter is the great benefic planet in astrology. This planet blesses us with religious sense, higher education, prosperity, spouses, and children. When the energies in your horoscope go wrong or are afflicted, this planet can cause various problems relating to your wealth, spouse, children, and education.
A weak or afflicted Jupiter causes Guru dosha.
To remove the negative energies of this Guru Dosha, here are three simple tips to enhance your Jupiter using turmeric -
- Mix turmeric in water and make a paste of it. Apply this paste to your forehead. This will not only balance the Jupiter in your natal chart but also activate your Ajna chakra and protect you.
- Tie a root of wild turmeric on your wrist or neck on Thursdays.
- Add a pinch of turmeric to a glass of water and keep it in the room where you do puja and chant the mantras. You may sprinkle this energized water all over your house.
2) Draw a Yellow Swastik or AUM
Aum, and Swastik are of great importance in Vasu and Vedic astrology. Making an Aum or Swastik of turmeric at the entrance of your home easily soaks up all the negativity and attracts positive energy.
A haldi Aum or Swastik is auspicious and brings in good prosperity and luck. When you make a haldi Aum or Swastika on a wall in the north direction, it brings peace and happiness into your life.
Drawing a yellow Aum or Swastika makes the deities happy, attracts goddess Lakshmi, enhances good sleep, and brings growth to your business.
3) Bathe With a Pinch of Turmeric
As we’ve said earlier, turmeric has a deep connection with Shri Ganesha. With turmeric being the manifestation of the Lord Himself, bathing with a pinch of it regularly will attract His blessings. Bathing with turmeric will cleanse your body, mind, and spirit.
Before you begin taking your turmeric bath, you may chant the following mantra, which will enhance the purifying power of turmeric.
"Gange Cha Yamune Chaiva Godavari Saraswati |
Narmade Sindhu Kaveri Jalesmin Sannidhim Kuru ||"
4) Worship Goddess Lakshmi With Turmeric
Of the seven births of Shakti, Lakshmi is the fourth. The other six are Tara, Ambika, Gayatri, Rajini, Uma, and Khanji. These saktis are believed to descend at each age to rid their devotees of pain and misfortune.
Worshipping the fourth Shakti, Devi Lakshmi, with haldi (along with vermillion and rice), bestows you with peace, prosperity, and abundance.
5) Turmeric for Young Girls and Women During the Festival and Otherwise
On Hartaleeka Teej, girls and women bathe with scented oil and turmeric. Married women do so to endure a long life for their husbands, and young girls do so to obtain a husband of their choice.
6) Balance Your Tridosha
Ayurveda holds turmeric exceptionally beneficial owing to its healing properties. Turmeric can effectively balance all three doshas (vata, pitta, and kapha) and establish your overall well-being.
Its heating quality balances your vata and kapha, while its bitter nature can effectively balance your aggravated pitta. So toss some turmeric into your daily foods and see its magic unravel!
7) Drink Hot Turmeric Milk
Turmeric milk, whether consumed hot or cold, delivers fantastic astrological results. Besides being a rich source of calcium, drinking turmeric milk can lift up the energies of both Jupiter and the Moon.
The Moon signifies your mind, while Jupiter has a lot to do with your relationships, life philosophy, and optimism.
Besides the usual physical benefits like strengthening your bones and digestive and immune systems, drinking turmeric milk will rectify lunar and Jupiterian energies, promoting overall health and well-being.
