How to use for japa and meditation

Sit comfortably in a clean, quiet place and choose a mantra or intention. Move one bead for each repetition, using a gentle grip. Let the count follow your practice rather than rushing to complete the strand.

If your mala has a guru or meru bead and your tradition instructs you not to cross it, reverse direction when you reach it. Follow your teacher’s counting method for a formal practice; use a separate counter when you need a fixed total.

Care and storage

Use a soft cloth for routine cleaning. Avoid solvents, harsh chemicals, heat, steam, and ultrasonic cleaning; lapis may have treatments that affect its care.

For any gentle damp cleaning, test a small area first and avoid saturating the string. Dry carefully and store separately from harder jewellery to reduce scratching.
