Why Dhanteras is the day for this

Dhanteras falls on 6 November this year, two days before Lakshmi Puja. The old practice is simple. You buy metal, you worship it that evening, then it goes into the house as something kept rather than spent.

Kuber is the treasurer in that story. His job is stored wealth, the part that sits still, which is why his yantra goes inside the locker with the cash.

The Shree Yantra covers the other half. Keep it with your papers so what comes in has somewhere settled to land.

A utensil bought on Dhanteras usually ends up in a cupboard by January. This one you'll still be using in ten years.

Putting it in your locker

Buy it before Dhanteras evening so it's in the house for the puja.

Clean out the tijori or the locker shelf first. Old bills, expired cards and loose keys come out.

Lay a small red cloth on the shelf.

At the evening muhurat, wipe both pieces with a damp cloth, then dry them. Apply a kumkum tilak to each.

Light a diya in front of them. Chant Om Yakshaya Kuberaya Vaishravanaya Dhanadhanyadhipataye Dhanadhanya Samriddhim Me Dehi Dapaya Swaha 21 times.

Put a currency note and a coin in front of the Kuber Yantra, then place both pieces inside the locker with the kaudi.

Close the locker and leave them there. A locker piece is meant to stay put.

Wipe them once a year, usually at the next Diwali, and put them straight back.

Want a 3D Shree Yantra too?

Add our Copper Meru Shree Yantra (1.5 inch 3D, Rs. 1,300 on its own) to your order alongside this kit. Copper is the metal most often named in the texts for yantras, and the Meru stands upright, so both pieces sit in the locker without leaning.

Add to your order

Free with this kit: a kaudi, which is kept beside Lakshmi during the puja and then in the locker.

Paid add-ons at checkout: a red velvet locker pouch, and a Gomti Chakra pack at Rs. 151 to keep in the cash box.
