Cat's Eye (Lehsunia) 5.11 Carat (5.6 Ratti) Oval Cabochon – LC1241 detail

Description

Cat's eye, called Lehsunia or Vaidurya, is named after its light effect. Fine parallel fibres or needles inside the stone reflect light into a single bright band across a domed cabochon, which moves as you turn the stone, like the slit pupil of a cat. This effect is called chatoyancy.

In Jyotish texts the classic Lehsunia is chrysoberyl cat's eye, a hard gem (8.5 on the Mohs scale). Quartz cat's eye, a softer chatoyant stone (about 7 on the Mohs scale), is the accepted substitute (upratna). Colour ranges from honey and golden brown to greenish grey.

Who is this for?

People whose astrologer recommends strengthening Ketu, traditionally when Ketu sits in the 3rd, 6th, 11th or 12th house of the birth chart, and those running Ketu mahadasha with Ketu well placed. It is often suggested for research, medicine, healing and spiritual work. It is usually avoided when Ketu is in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th or 8th house, so get your kundli checked before wearing it.
